Uganda Gorilla & Chimpanzee Safari

This 10 day trip has it all! You’ll get to hang out with gorillas, trek with chimpanzees, go on safaris to see elephant, rhino, lions, leopard, hippos and more! You’ll get to see a vast variety of birds and also go in search of amazing reptile species!

Itinerary:

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Visit the Top of Murchison Falls.

After early breakfast, our driver guide will pick us up from your hotel, have you briefed about the itinerary and then get transferred to Murchison Falls National Park. Along the way, we will make a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where rhinos are being reintroduced to Uganda. Here you make a trek on foot to see the rhinos close up. After rhino trekking, we will have lunch and continue to the top of Murchison falls and then to the lodge in Murchison Falls National Park. The top of the falls is the best spot to view how the Nile River showcases its true beauty as it penetrates through the 7m wide gorge, forming the most beautiful and strongest falls in the world. When you arrive at the site before setting the eyes on the falls, you will hear the roars of water as it hits the rocks and flows down a height of about 43m.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and River Boat Cruise.

After an early coffee, we will set off for a game-drive in the park. We have a chance of seeing big cats hunting, Elephants, Giraffes, Buffalos, plus more as the checklist of mammals reaches 76. We will head to the Delta and have breakfast, then continue the amazing game drive. After, we have a 3-hour boat cruise to the base of Murchison falls where we get to see the Hippos, Nile Crocodiles, Elephants and a variety of beautiful bird species along the banks. We will then head back to the lodge for lunch and chill out. You may want to go for a swim in the lodge’s pool.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale N/P (Night walk).

After an early breakfast, we will embark on a long drive to Kibale National Park. As we drive through the countryside, we will enjoy the remarkable landscapes, traditional homes and catch glimpses of the different striking bird species and primates. We will check-in to the hotel and then go for a night walk in the forest.

Accommodation: Guereza Canopy Lodge or Kibale Forest Lodge (depending on availability).

Day 4: Morning Chimpanzee trekking and Forest Night Walk.

Early in the morning after breakfast, we will transfer to the chimpanzee briefing headquarters where we will be briefed and then allocated a chimpanzee community. Our ranger guide will lead us on the trek in search of these great apes. We will watch the chimpanzees in their natural habitat, as they swing from the branches in the canopy and walk close to us on the forest floor. After lunch, We will relax at the lodge and later go for a night walk in Kibale National park, to search for bush babies, pottos, reptiles and more!

Day 5: Early Morning Transfer to the Mountains of the Moon for herping (searching for reptiles and amphibians), then transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park for an Afternoon game drive Safari.

After breakfast, we will get head to Rwenzori Mountains also known as Mountains of the Moon. Upon reaching, we shall head for morning herping (looking for reptiles and amphibians), looking for different chameleon species and of course for great lakes bush vipers. The common species found in this area are the Great lakes bush vipers, Johnstoni chameleons, side stripped chameleons, strange horned chameleons. After herping we will have lunch, then transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park for an afternoon game drive. After checking in to our lodge, we will do an afternoon game drive which is commonly done in Kasenyi plains. During the game drive we will be able to view animals like buffaloes, elephants, Ugandan kobs, warthogs, waterbucks, bushbucks, elephants and potentially view lions hunting.

Day 6: Morning Game Drive Safari in Queen Elizabeth NP.

Early morning after breakfast, we will head for a game drive that may take about 4 – 5 hours, where we can see a vast array of African wildlife. After the game drive, we will travel back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you can chill out around the amazing lodge and potentially watch wildlife from your beautiful accommodation. You can also chill out around the pool and spot wildlife from there.

Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

After breakfast, we will embark on our journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park with enroute lunch. Some of the drive will be through Ishasha, where we may be able to see the famous tree-climbing lions, as well as a bunch of primate species and other big game. Upon arrival, we will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

After an early breakfast, we will carry a packed lunch and head for a gorilla trekking briefing at the park headquarters. After the briefing we will be allocated a gorilla family to trek to with a park guide who is experienced with the tracking gorillas. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park takes on average 30 minutes to 6 hours, but could be longer, depending on where the gorillas are located. During trekking we will be able to view other primate species and different birds, in a gorgeous jungle. Once the gorillas are found, we will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to watch their behaviours and perhaps get very close to you. We will have the opportunity to take once in a lifetime photos and videos. After the one hour with the mountain gorillas, we will trek back to the starting point where we will be given a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking.

Day 9: Transfer to Mityana for herping and forest walking.

Early in the morning, we will enjoy a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and transfer to Mityana. It will be a long drive so we will have lunch along the way and a stopover at the Equator to take photos and buy souvenirs. From the equator we will head to our accommodation in Mityana.

Day 10: Herping in Mityana then Transfer to Entebbe.

After breakfast, we shall be leaving the hotel by at least 7:00am and head to the forest. Herping (searching for reptiles and amphibians) usually starts from 8:00am and ends depending on if our targets met or not. Our target species during our herpetological expeditions in Mityana are the Gaboon vipers (B.Gabonica), Rhinoceros vipers (B. Arsicornis), Jameson's mambas (D. Jamesoni Kaimosae), Green bush vipers (A. squamigera), Rough scaled bush vipers (A. hispida), and many more. As a way of promoting community tourism, we use local guides who will be joining us to help find these amazing reptiles.

Transfer to Entebbe.

All activities, chimpanzee permits, gorilla trekking permits, local and professional guides during expeditions, services of a professional English-speaking driver guide, all accommodation (excluding accommodation if arriving early), pick up and drop off in Entebbe, bottled drinking water and all meals.

 Not Included:

Flights, visas, personal/ travel insurance, personal expenses like buying souvenirs, crafts, drinks, laundry services, tips, optional activities not included on the itinerary, hotel at Entebbe (if arriving early or staying extra days).

Once the retainer is paid, your spot on the trip is confirmed. Spots may fill up fast, so we recommend paying the retainer ASAP so you don’t miss out. The retainer is non-refundable unless the problem is on our end. In an unlikely event of world travel disruption (like covid, war etc), we will make a good faith effort to recover your retainer from our international hosts. We will return the amount we are able to recover. You can pay the retainer via bank transfer or PayPal. If paying via PayPal, there is a 5% surcharge to cover the PayPal fees.

Final Payment: The final payment (USD $3,625) is to be paid 3 months before the start date of the trip (10th October 2025). We will reach out with payment advice on the remaining balance. Please reach out if you would like to pay it earlier.

Cancellations: If you have paid the remaining balance and are unable to make the trip, it is unlikely we will be able give you a refund. Because we have to book all the activities, permits, accommodations, transport etc far in advance, your spot has been fully booked and paid for in advance, so refunding your money is very difficult and not likely.

This is Africa and you must be prepared for plans to change every now and again. We expect to do everything listed on this itinerary however, the itinerary is subject to change if circumstances like the weather compromises certain activities. If this happens, we will try our best to replace the activity with something equally as cool.
